How to Properly Operate Road Milling Machinery to Extend Cutter Teeth Service Life

(1) Before operation, check the mounting bolts of the milling drum tool holders for looseness and verify that the milling bits can rotate freely within their sockets; if rotation is stiff, gently tap the bit with a small hammer until it rotates normally.
(2) Determine the appropriate milling depth based on the pavement material and structure; a single pass depth of 30–40 mm is generally recommended, while operations requiring greater depths should be performed in multiple layers.
(3) During normal milling operations, monitor the sound of the milling bits; if abnormal noise occurs, stop milling immediately and check the road surface for underground utilities or other hard objects.
(4) Pay attention to the milling speed; do not operate at excessive speeds when the milling depth is significant.
(5) After work is completed, thoroughly clear debris from the milling drum and ensure the milling bits remain free to rotate in their sockets.
(6) Ensure a continuous supply of cooling water for the cutting tools during milling operations.
(7) When installing milling bits, do not strike the carbide tip forcefully with a hammer, as this may shatter the tip and reduce the tool’s service life; the use of specialized tools is recommended.
